چکیده

A planet transits an 11 magnitude, G1V star in the constellation Corona Borealis. We designate the planet XO-1b, and the star, XO-1, also known as GSC 02041-01657. XO-1 lacks a trigonometric distance; we estimate it to be 200±20 pc. Of the ten stars currently known to host extrasolar transiting planets, the star XO-1 is the most similar to the Sun in its physical characteristics: its radius is 1.0±0.08 R⊙, its mass is 1.0±0.03 M⊙, V sini < 3 km s, and its metallicity [Fe/H] is 0.015±0.04. The orbital period of the planet XO-1b is 3.941534±0.000027 days, one of the longer ones known. The planetary mass is 0.90±0.07 MJ, which is marginally larger than that of other transiting planets with periods between 3 and 4 days. Both the planetary radius and the inclination are functions of the spectroscopically determined stellar radius. If the stellar radius is 1.0±0.08 R⊙, then the planetary radius is 1.30±0.11 RJ and the inclination of the orbit is 87.7±1.2. Orbital perturbations of transiting planets: A possible method to measure stellar quadrupoles and to detect Earth-mass planets

The recent discovery of a planetary transit in the star HD 209458, and the subsequent highly precise observation of the transit lightcurve with HST, is encouraging to search for any phenomena that might induce small changes in the lightcurve. Here we consider the effect of the quadrupole moment of the parent star, and of a possible second planet perturbing the orbit of the transiting planet. Bo...

Gravitational microlensing of stars with transiting planets

If planetary systems are ubiquitous then a fraction of stars should possess a transiting planet when being microlensed. This paper presents a study of the influence of such planets on microlensing light curves. For the giant planets recently identified, the deviations in the light curve can be substantial, although the specifics of the perturbations are dependent upon the radius of the planet r...

Physical Parameters of the Parent Star and the Transiting Planet

The Sun-like star HD 209458 harbors a close-in giant planet which transits across the star’s disk, and thus allows an unprecedented access to the basic parameters of the planet, given a certain knowledge of the basic parameters of the star, namely its mass and radius. We present theoretical stellar evolution model calculations for HD 209458 and discuss the uncertainties involved in deriving the...

HAT-P-5b: A JUPITER-LIKE HOT JUPITER TRANSITING A BRIGHT STAR

We report the discovery of a planet transiting a moderately bright (V = 12.00) G star, with an orbital period of 2.788491± 0.000025 days. From the transit light curve we determine that the radius of the planet is Rp = 1.257± 0.053RJup. HAT-P-5b has a mass of Mp = 1.06± 0.11MJup, similar to the average mass of previously-known transiting exoplanets, and a density of ρp = 0.66± 0.11 g cm. We find...

Exoplanetsat: High Precision Photometry for Exoplanet Transit Detections in a 3u Cubesat

ExoplanetSat is a 3U CubeSat which will detect transiting “superEarth” exoplanets around bright, nearby sun-like stars. The ExoplanetSat prototype will focus on stars with low-mass planets (discovered by radial velocity planetfinding surveys)—planets which are not yet known to transit. No other current ground or space-based mission is capable of observing these systems, one star at at a time, o...
